Database Fields give you the ability to store more that just an email address for your recipients. You can include first and last names, address information, dates, customer codes, product purchase history, or any other type of text or numerical data you want to associate with your recipients - up to 255 fields of information, in addition to an email address. This field data can be used to personalize messages, segment your list for targeted mailings, or, if you are a CampaignPlus or Publisher customer, to dynamically insert specific content based on database conditions. |

The database fields associated with your lists are specified and configured by you according to your specific needs.
Your Savicom Mail Professional, CampaignPlus or Publisher accounts come configured with examples of commonly used fields, but we suggest that you begin by reviewing the information you would like to include with each recipient's record, then creating your custom database fields using Edit Fields/Sublist under Account Configuration. By doing this in advance, your custom fields will be available to you to "map" to data contained in lists you upload, as well as when creating website subscription forms. |

Sublists are special database fields that allow list owners to manage separate mailing lists using the same account (listid) and interface. Sub-lists can have unique branding, settings, and special Sublist Preferences associated with them. Recipients can be "on", or "members of" multiple Sub-lists.
In your database, Sub-lists are actually recorded as “flags”, that can be either “on” or “off”, “true” or “false” or “not set”. Sublists, unlike Fields, do not store what we normally consider “data” such as character or numeric values. |

Sub-List Features
Message appearance and subscription/unsubscribe preferences and messages can be customized by Sub-list. Refer to the Sublist Preferences FAQ.

Messages can be easily sent to a Sub-list by using the "Send Message to Sub-list" selection box rather than by creating a query on the Recipient tab of Compose/Send Capamaign..

If requested, Recipients who unsubscribe from a message sent to a Sub-list are removed ONLY from that Sub-list; i.e., the field value for that Sub-list is set to "FALSE", except for the condition below in # 4.

Note: This is an important consideration for managing your recipient list information, and can cause recipient complaints if not completely understood. Please see the "CAUTIONARY NOTE" below.

If recipients unsubscribe from a Sub-list and they are no longer on ANY Sub-lists defined in your database, i.e., they unsubscribe from the last Sub-list of which they are a "member", they are removed entirely from your list.

When recipients are pruned due to repeated failed deliveries, they are removed entirely from your list, not just from a Sub-list. Refer to the Pruning FAQ.

No matter how many Sub-lists a recipient is on, the recipient address counts as only one when calculating your recipient total.

CAUTIONARY NOTE: The fact that each Sub-list must be unsubscribed from individually is NOT always an advantage. If you manage a lot of Sub-lists for mailings that are “offers”, are not community-based, or not double opt-in on a per-list basis, your use of Sub-lists can create a risk for getting unsolicited email complaints and the potential for Savicom to Suspend or Terminate your list.
AUP Policy: Intentionally using Sub-lists to "trap" a recipient on your list so you can mail to them repeatedly regardless of their attempts to unsubscribe is a violation of our License Agreement and AUP Policy and will result in your account being terminated. |

When to Use Sub-Lists
It is usually advisable to use flag fields to record "true/false" data for recipients. You can query for flag fields easily to segregate your recipient list and send targeted mailings. You do not run the risk of sending mail to a recipient who is under the impression they unsubscribed from your list entirely.

Sub-lists should only be used when at least some of the criteria below are true:
- There is a legitimate need to preserve a recipient's subscription to other Sub-lists after they have unsubscribed from a Sub-list.
- The Sub-lists have significantly different purpose and content.
- The Sub-lists are branded differently.
- The recipient understands that they are being subscribed to multiple mailing lists
- The recipient is informed at the time of subscription that each mailing list will require a separate unsubscribe action.
- You never need to have only ONE Sub-list. Sub-lists only serve a purpose when there are at least two of them or you plan on growing your message categories.
